Around the world in 6 Newcastle restaurants

We reviewed six of the best local international Newcastle restaurants

Urban Study apartments are hugely popular with international students and young professionals just starting out their careers coming from all corners of the world to experience 'The UK's Favourite City' Newcastle.

Newcastle is industrial, historical, bustling, forward-thinking, and dubbed the friendliest UK region. Intrepid travelers should never go exploring with an empty belly (especially before a night out with Geordies!) so here's a hot list of eateries to hit that are sure to line your stomachs with delicious delicacies from around the world; inspired by tips from our residents.

Lane 7:

The ultimate American experience, this diner also has a bowling alley, pool hall, beer pong tables, karaoke room and even indoor mini-golf. Their slow roasted ribs, pulled pork and burgers all come with their delicious homemade BBQ sauce, which you can wash down with one of their 'hardshakes'- a milkshake with either vodka or bourbon.

El Coto:

Great for a big group, you will be spoilt for choice at this tapas bar. They offer a range of cold and hot dishes with specialty Spanish ingredients including queso manchego, jamón serrano and chorizo. For those looking for something heartier, try their traditional meat, seafood or vegetarian paellas. Can't decide? Their selection menus will give you the variety you are looking for.

The Orchid:

For those seeking more exotic South East Asian flavors, The Orchid provides authentic Chinese cuisine, from dim-sum, to crispy duck, to extremely popular sweet and sour. Our favorites are the crispy shredded beef and chicken chow mein. If you're unfamiliar with Chinese dishes, the set menus are the perfect failsafe.

Luigikhans:

This place describes itself as 'relaxed Punjabi cuisine'- they cater to all fans of Indian food. Spice-lovers can choose from a fiery vindaloo whilst those with milder tastes can opt for a creamy Korma. Don't forget to try one of their refreshing tequila sunrises, or its non-alcoholic counterpart, the Bollywood sunrise.

The Herb Garden:

An independent pizza kitchen, you'll easily spot it thanks to the gold horse wearing roller-skates at the door. Alongside their classic pizza range topped with mozzarella, pepperoni and olives, they offer vegan and vegetarian alternatives for non-meat eaters.

Riley's Fish Shack:

What's more comforting than freshly-caught fish and chips? Whilst there are many options in central Newcastle, we recommend jump on the metro to Tynemouth, where you can experience this quaint beach-side restaurant that prides itself on offering healthy options. A walk along the sand pre or post meal is highly recommended!

So there you have it – apologies if we've made you hungry! If you've been or are going to any of these places, show us your enviable food snaps on Instagram (@Urban_Study) or email us on hello@urban-study.com
